He was a Swedish painter. Törnqvist worked at LM Ericsson (phone company) from 1918 to 1922 and studied at night at a private secondary school. In1922 he began studying art at evening classes at Gottfrid Larsson's målarskola (painting school) in Stockholm. In the Spring of 1923 he left his job as a factory worker and studied at the Konstakademie (Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts) until 1929 before continuing his studies in Paris.
