Gunnel Nyman Vases

Blown Glass Vases by Gunnel Nyman for Nuutajarvi Notsjo Gunnel Nyman (1909 - 1948) was a true innovator of Finnish glass design and a forerunner of the Modern glass movement. Her legacy is a fantastic celebration of the emergence of female designers during the mid-century period. Although her life was sadly too short, her small collection of designs have become some of Finland's most iconic. Nyman was a master of beautifully capturing light and colour. Her design is particularly recognised for its minimal organic forms that echo a feminine quality, incorporating timeless abstract and subtle elements. These stunningly beautiful vases feature solid pale lilac & clear crystal with controlled internal bullicante. The incredible effect is created through a spike mould blown glass technique, which was expertly mastered by Nuutajarvi glass artists. The taller vase, known as model GN12, is signed ‘G Nyman Nuutajarvi Notsjo -51’ in acid pen on the underside. Both pieces are in excellent condition (outstanding for age) with no notches, cracks, discolouration or repairs. This listing is for both vases.
