Educational Diffraction Grating 3-in-1 A diffraction grating is an optical device used in physics and engineering to disperse light into its individual wavelengths or colors. It consists of a large number of equally spaced parallel slits or rulings, which act as tiny prisms. When light passes through or reflects off the grating, it undergoes diffraction, resulting in the light being split into its constituent colors. Principle of Diffraction: When a wave encounters an obstacle with dimensions comparable to its wavelength, it diffracts or bends around the edges of the obstacle. The amount of bending depends on the wavelength of the light and the spacing of the slits on the grating. Dispersion: When white light (which is a combination of all visible colors) passes through the diffraction grating, the different wavelengths of light are diffracted at slightly different angles according to the grating equation.
