A black wrap with a shine along the fold The flap comes back over the fore-edge and holds the block shut, so the notebook stays flat and nothing catches in a bag. On smooth Buttero, that flap does something else as well. Buttero polishes where it is worked. A trifold works the same three places every single time it closes — the fold line, the flap corner, the spine — and within a few months those three places carry a low gloss the flat panels do not have. On black, that reads as a set of deliberate highlights tracing the construction of the cover. The hide is dense and firm at 2.2–2.4 mm, which is what makes the wrap hold its shape rather than sagging open.
