Natural Ghost Wax Leather Cover

An undyed cover that records its first year Ghost Wax Natural is a vegetable-tanned hide from Conceria Walpier carrying a pale, frosted wax layer over undyed leather. Nothing is dyed and nothing is covered up. The wax is not a permanent finish, and it is not supposed to be. Where your hand sits — the spine, the front corner, the edge you open it from — the frost wears through first and a warmer honey-caramel tone comes up underneath. Within a few months the front of the cover carries a fairly accurate map of how you hold it. Marks in the wax are normal, and some covers arrive with a few already in them. That is the wax layer scuffing, not damage to the leather beneath it. The layer is soft on purpose: press a scuff with your thumb and it settles back into the surface, and in any case the whole cover is heading the same way — the frost is meant to go. Undyed leather also darkens on its own, from daylight and from the oils on your hands. A natural cover a year old sits several shades deeper than the one that came out of the box.
