Natural Buttero Leather Cover

Undyed Buttero, which changes more than any colour we sell Natural Buttero has had nothing added to it. No dye, no pigment, no finish — just vegetable-tanned Walpier leather in the pale, slightly pinkish sand colour the tanning leaves behind. It will not stay that colour. Undyed veg-tan reacts to daylight and to the oils on your hands, and it does so fast: a few weeks in, the places you hold are already warmer than the rest. Over a year the whole cover moves through honey to a deep amber, and the pattern of where your hands go is written into it permanently. Two natural covers a year old never look the same as each other. It shows everything in the meantime — a drop of water, a fingerprint, the edge of a coffee cup. If that sounds like a defect, one of the dyed colours is the better choice. If it sounds like the point, this is the hide.
