A Late Spring Afternoon

The thundering run-off fills the forest with the promise of new growth. The Rockies are free of snow finally and the air is filled with the scent of the spruce forest floor. "A Late Spring Afternoon" depicts a mountain waterfall cutting through a rocky canyon. This oil painting captures the spring meltwater as it cascades down between stone walls, with evergreens standing tall along the edges and mountains rising in the distance. The fallen logs crossing the gorge show nature's own architecture—creating natural bridges where trees have come to rest after their time standing sentinel. Many who visit such places remember the sensory experience: the sound of rushing water, the cool mist rising from below, and the contrast between flowing water and unyielding stone shaped over centuries. This piece continues my study of Canadian wilderness landscapes.
