It was characterized by it's complex hilt and long slender blade. Early rapier designs were derived from the shorter and heavier side-sword which itself came from the medieval arming sword. Our side-ring rapier is the next step in this design evolution adding a simple ring for hand protection while remaining ultra-lightweight.
