Victorian 18ct Gold, Sapphire and Diamond Crescent Moon Brooch

A very fine sapphire and diamond crescent brooch. It is exquisitely made, and features more than twenty vibrant sapphires above a line of sparkling diamonds. It is on a frame, and can also be worn as a pendant. It may also have once been a hair ornament, or part of a larger tiara. The Victorians adored their crescents, which often are seen to represent “new beginnings”. As the moon changes, and when it turns into a full moon, it reflects the ebb and flow of life - thus a crescent in the 19th Century was associated with weddings and births (and later, honeymoons).
